Anakin Skywalker
Anakin Skywalker is the key figure in the entire Star Wars series.
The story starts with a 9 year old Anakin. A slave boy on planet Tatooine. Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-wan Kenobi went to Tatooine while helping Queen Amidala evacuate her court from its attackers.
They meet a little slave boy, Anakin Skywalker. Qui-Gon Jinn senses this little boy has very high force potential. He believes that Anakin is the one in ancient Jedi prophesies that will bring balance to the force.
At the age of 9, Anakin could repair anything. He even made C3PO to help his mom with her work. He was the only human who could handle high speed pod racing. Qui-Gon Jinn placed a bet to win Anakins freedom. If Anakin wins a race, Anakin gets his freedom and Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-wan Kenobi get the parts they need to fix their space craft. Anakin won in spite of the odds and even the sabotage of his pod.
The 2 jedis brought Anakin to the Jedi Council to begin his training but the council was against it. In the first place, Anakin was too old to begin. Jedis begin training from infancy. Secondly, Yoda sensed that Anakin had a clouded future and it could be dangerous to train him as a Jedi. Still, Anakin proved himself with his courage and skill. The little boy piloted a star fighter into the center of the enemy droid control ship, fired 2 nuclear torpedos into the reactor, detroying that ship and crippling the enemy forces. After that feat, the Jedi council agreed to let him train as a Jedi. He became Obi-wan Kenobi's Padawan.
Anakin and Padme first met when he was 10 and she was 14. Since then, Anakin harboured a major crush on her. His opportunity came when he and Obi-wan Kenobi were assigned to protect her from assination. While Obi-wan pursued the assassins, Anakin was to stay with Padme at all times, to protect her. They stayed at a beautiful, secluded, romantic place where they fell in love. A forbidden love though. The Jedi are not supposed to marry.
While still in Naboo, Anakin dreamt of his mom dying. He disobeyed his orders and went back to Tatooine to search for her. She had been freed of slavery. A kind man bought her as a slave but ended up marrying her. She was a free woman. Unfortunately, she had gone missing for a month. Anakin searched for her and found her dying in the encampment of the Sand People, her captors and torturers. She died in his arms. In his grief and rage, he killed all the sand people in that encampment.
Anakin returned to Padme who comforted him. They eventually married secretly.
Padme fell pregnant. Anakin dreamt again but this time of Padme dying. He started searching for a way to save her. Yoda advised him to let go and that death is a natural part of life. Chancellor Palpatine, who was a mentor to Anakin told him of a Sith Lord who could prevent the ones he loved from dying.
Anakin made many wrong choices and in the end, chose to follow Palpatine. To become his apprentice, in the hope of finding a way to save Padme. Instead, in a blind rage, he ended up strangling Padme with his force powers.
Obi-wan and Anakin engaged in a light saber battle over volcanic lava. In this battle, Obi-wan cut off Anakin's legs. Anakin's body caught fire and Obi-wan left him for dead. Anakin's rage and hatred kept him alive. Palpatine found Anakin and had robotic parts melded onto his flesh, creating the Darth Vader we know.
