Darth Sidious

Darth Sidious is a Sith Lord. The Siths are brilliant at stealth. Even a Jedi master may not detect that someone is a Sith master until it is too late. The Sith are like the Jedi, except that they use the dark side of the force. Feelings of hatred, rage and selfishness are of the dark side of the force. Due to the nature of the dark side, there can only be 2 siths at any one time. The Sith master and the Sith apprentice. More than that and they will exterminate one another for supremacy.

In The Phantom Menace, the presence of a Sith Lord was detected. Darth Maul was destroyed, but the Jedi council was left with that mystery. Was he the Sith master or the apprentice?

Throughout the first 2 episodes of Star Wars, the Jedi were tracking down a hidden enemy, not realizing that the mastermind was right in front of them. Councillor Palpatine, whom they were to protect, was in reality Sith Master, Darth Sidious. It was not until Revenge of the Sith that Anakin realized this and alerted the Jedi council, before being finally turned to the dark side by Darth Sidious himself.

When the Jedi masters went to arrest Palpatine, they realized that he was far from helpless. Palpatine, Darth Sidious is immensely powerful. With his light saber, he easily overpowered the first few jedi masters who came after him. With Mace Windu, he acted helpless as Anakin came in, pleading that Anakin rescue him. A master of deception, he fooled Anakin into siding with him. After helping Palpatine against Mace, leading to Mace Windu's death, what choice had Anakin then?

Darth Sidious met his end at the hands of Darth Vader, who finally found it within himself to turn back to the light side of the force and save his son Luke, thereby fulfilling the prophecy made about Anakin Skywalker.
