Nightwing is Dick Grayson (Richard John Grayson). Robin, all grown up.
Dick Grayson was an acrobat. His family was the famous Flying Graysons. A circus troop. One night, his parents was killed in a performance. Someone tampered with their equipment, which gave way, killing the Graysons, leaving Dick Grayson an orphan. Billionaire Bruce Wayne was at the performance and having been orphaned himself when his parents were killed, he saw himself in young Dick Grayson.
Bruce adopted Dick as his ward and brought him up. Bruce Wayne, as Batman, trained Dick to be his crime fighting side kick, Robin. Unlike Bruce, Dick was not bitter. Bruce grew up fatherless, driven to fight crime with a vengeance. Dick although also an orphan found a father in Bruce, which made him more adjusted than his mentor.
Robin was shot by the Joker and almost died. Batman did not want Dick to endanger his life any further and wanted him to stop being Robin. The 2 parted ways over this and Dick became Nightwing and the leader of the Teen Titans.
A trained acrobat who was subsequently trained in martial arts by Batman himself, Nightwing is one of the best fighters in the DC Universe.
